Designing with sound

This session will encourage media creators to take advantage of audio's communcation potential in their projects. Best thought of as "Sound Design 101" this session will introduce basic sound design theories and practices and teach attendees the different ways they can make "design decisions" when it comes to employing sound. We'll explore different kinds of sounds found in multimedia, the types of relationships they can have with visuals, and the way they can be used to communicate different information. We'll also cover planning and producing sound for multimedia by introducing some practical techniques and common considerations. From voiceover production to navigation sounds to music selection, there's more to consider than meets the eye, and this session will help get attendees thinking about using audio . This session is about the craft of using audio to communicate. The examples are shown via quicktime movie clips, or with Protools. The only sales pitch is to get attendees excited about what you can do with sound, and how the potential is amazing.
